On 25 January, as part of the site clean-up project at Upes iela 1A, TNA held a meeting with representatives of various organizations and residents. During the meeting, Santa Sausiņa, Board Member of TNA, Gints Liepaskalns, TNA business consultant, and architect Gunta Grikmane presented those attending with information on the site, the project’s plans, and the assessment of the trees’ condition by SIA LABIE KOKI EKSPERTI, in order to dispel concerns about the future of the trees on this site. The meeting was attended by representatives of the World Wide Fund for Nature, the resident community of the Hospitāļu iela and Brasa neighbourhood, the Great Cemetery Friends group, and other interested parties.
The real estate taken over from the Ministry of Finance last year is planned to be developed in the long term solely for the needs of justice-sector institutions and to be retained in state ownership. At present, the justice sector, for example, lacks premises for the Prison Administration, the archives of justice-sector institutions, and other bodies. Given that the clean-up of the UNESCO World Heritage site and the structures located on it requires very substantial budget resources in the long term, it is currently possible to set out in detail only the first stage of the site improvement works, which involves clean-up works on the overgrown landscape of the park area. Conservation works on the structures are also planned going forward, to prevent their further deterioration. Their restoration and development will depend on the volume of resources available.
